Sixty percent of all books sold in the US today are sold on Amazon. However, since this giant corporation has put so many smaller retail establishments out of business, many people are trying to avoid buying from Amazon. Bookshop.org launched in 2020 for the express purpose of “helping local, independent bookstores thrive in the age of ecommerce.”
At Bookshop.org you can order books and have them delivered to your doorstep, just like Amazon. But, rather than Amazon squeezing out indie bookstores, the local bookstore you select receives 30% of the cover price. (If you don’t designate a store, the profit goes into a pool which is then shared between Bookshop.org’s participating partners.)
